Bungie's Destiny Will Face It's Biggest Problem Later This Year!
DESTINY may still be one of the most popular games around, but Bungie's epic open-world shooter is set to face its biggest ever threat later this year.
Step forward Tom Clancy's The Division, which takes Destiny's fundamentals and places them in a modern-day apocalyptic New York City.
Players will be able to roam free around town in groups or own their own in order to track down the source of a killer virus, and Ubisoft are hopeful The Division can become the gaming world's new favourite online multiplayer.
Speaking about comparisons with Destiny, The Division's IP Director Martin Hultberg said: "The fact that our scenario is grounded in reality, an actual 'what if' scenario, sets up apart from most other games.
The Division is based on a real threat, a clear and present danger to our society
Martin Hultberg
"We have no aliens, no zombies or strange monsters running about. The Division is based on a real threat, a clear and present danger to our society."
Like Destiny, The Division focuses heavily on upgrades, loot and levelling up while offering a host of various multiplayer game modes.
However, Hultberg is adamant that Ubisoft's game will offer seamless transitions, explaining: "This means no lobbies or menus. It is just one unbroken experience once you start the game."
These smooth additions could be enough for most Destiny players to at least pick up a copy of The Division when it is released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 8.
But Hultberg believes that the human condition will be enough to draw gamers into the world of The Division, adding: "Mankind has always been fascinated by disasters and the end times, since as far back as we have recorded history.
"[The end] is in religious texts, it is told as legends… Severe disasters are historic fact and there are countless books on the subject.
"Humans are set apart from other animals in that we can see patterns over time, we can speculate and we can theorise. It is probably part of human nature – to speculate on the subject of our own demise."For more gaming news, come and join our facebook gaming community @ facebook.com/webjunkiesblog.
