Dragon Nest Guide: Damage & Elemental Dragon Jade Contribution to Overall Damage

Damage calculation related to Dragon Jade is explained by Sieg. Understanding the contribution of damage & elemental dragon jade to overall damage dealing capability is crucial for DPS optimization in Dragon Nest.

I have 4 MDMG jades and 1 A plate, giving a total of +26% MDMG from gear

13156 * 0.5 = 6578 (0.5 MDMG per INT)
17001-23760 is the MDMG from gear, both base and %

6578 + 17001= 23579
23579 * 0.217 (Longbow Mastery + 65 Passive) = 5116.643
6578 + 23760 = 30338
30338 * 0.217 = 6583.346

The sum of White (base damage from INT/STR/AGI) + Green (damage from gear) damage is the number which our Blue (damage from skills/buffs/passives) damage is calculated from. Although it isn’t exact that green figures come from gear alone, since Judge Power is one exception, but let us use this abstraction to demonstrate the actual formula to derive our damage.

The problem with this method of display is quite obvious – people are unable to see exactly how much damage +%dmg from gear contributes, nor how it interacts with the rest of your damage.

We will therefore use our skills to demonstrate the effect of the DMG Jades/Pots.

After Spirit Excel

15918 * 0.5 = 7959
7959 – 6578 = 1381

I have +26% MDMG from gear, therefore 1381 * 0.26 = 359.06 is how much our GREEN damage should grow by, since it displays damage from gear.

Pre Spirit Excel: (17001-23760)
Post Spirit Excel: (17360-24119)

We can observe that our green damage grew exactly by 359. Let us take a look at our BLUE damage now

Pre Spirit Excel: (5116-6583)
Post Spirit Excel: (5494-6960)

5494 -5116 = 378
(7959 – 6578) * 0.217 = 299.677

We are therefore around 78 DMG short… where 359.06 * 0.217 = 77.91.

Just in case people don’t get it, +%DMG from GEAR is multiplicative with buffs, while elemental attack is additive.

Given a hypothetical raid scenario where our base damage is a flat A, 0% DMG from gear, 0% Elemental Attack on an elemental attack hit

(A*1.04 [MDMG Jade]) *2 (+100% DMG from buffs) = 2.08
(A * 2) * 1.0805 (Elemental Attack Jade) = 2.161

This is the “expected” result and conclusion of many people.

However, let us use a different scenario where we have 10% DMG from gear, 34% Elemental Attack on an elemental attack hit

(A*1.14) * 2 * 1.34 = 3.0552
(A*1.1) * 2 * 1.42 = 3.124

10% from Plate
24% from 3 Elemental Attack Jades + 5% Title + 4/5% Cash Rings OR Tattoo or whatever

As people can observe, there is diminishing returns either way. Depending on your other sources of elemental attack / +% damage, it is possible for a DMG jade to out-do an elemental attack jade. This is most evident when you hit the 50x cap, where the only way to raise your damage higher is to use DMG jades.

To make it even clearer, under full raid buffs, the 4.31% P/MDMG from potted 60L rings will be amplified to 8.62% of your base damage.

If we assume a character has the same base damage otherwise, ignoring whatever differences from other stats on 60L/70L rings

(A*1.1862[2 60L rings]) * 2 * 1.42 (Using the above example, +8% from the remaining pot) = 3.3688
1.1A * 2 * 1.42 = 3.124

Or a 7.8% difference in damage. However, 70L weapon users will know if there are any options that will yield a higher figure than the 4.31% pot IN TOWN pre-buffs. (Generally the answer is NO…)

Now, let us verify once more the effect of the +% DMG from buffs using Sylph’s Aid

7959 + 17360 = 25319
25319 * 0.417 (Longbow Mastery + 65 Passive + Sylph’s Aid) = 10558.023
25319 + 10558 = 35877

The “actual” form of DMG calculation (not that it is shown in the game, but allows you to manipulate numbers properly) is

Base DMG (regardless of from INT/AGI/STR or Gear) * (1 +% from gear) * (1 +% from skills/buffs/passives). One thing for CDN players to note, if they choose to do this calculation test themselves, is that our G friend bonus adds to BASE damage, and is not counted as buff damage. As for Judge Power… let me test that when I have time.

One thing that people might ask about is Battle Howl. It is true that Battle Howl reduces the gap between DMG jades and Elemental Attack jades… but that is only under the assumption that the 100% cap is NOT hit.

Simplified version

Calculate for yourself before deciding on DMG vs Elemental Attack Jades. If hitting the 50x cap in a raid, swap to the DMG Jade.
